MISSION

The DoodleBugz Art School is an innovative new program designed to nurture the creative talents of every child and to help them develop their unique personal expression through art, as well as introduce them to contemporary art examples and ideas.  In many cases we teach students a new technique or skill and allow them creative freedom to draw/paint what they choose as long as they incorporate the newly-learned technique.  This allows students to create art about the things they are intersted in and care about, all while learning new techniques and developing their skills.  Many of our lessons teach advanced techniques that are normally reserved for middle or high school students - we have found great success in challenging young students and are often surprised with the results. Doodlebugz classes encourage practice and patience, as well as observation and experimentation.

Our goals are: to bring new and exciting art-making experiences to young students, to provide opportunities for students to broaden their understanding of what art is, and to teach students how to use the visual language of art to express their feelings and ideas.

All DoodleBugz Art School sessions are taught by local artists who encourage play and discovery in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.  With Pennsylvania cutting the arts out of their budget, there has never been a more critical time to foster creativity in the education of our youth and show our support for the arts.  Our after-school art programs allow children to develop art-making skills and techniques while nurturing their innate creativity and natural talents in a way that is engaging, educational and exciting.  And, it is brought to you by Tal-Million Laboratories, a trusted name in creative enrichment education.

Materials

Doodlebugz Art School uses a mix of high-quality professional artist materials and recycled or reused materials. We value the environment and its limited resources - many of the Doodlebugz paintings are done on reused cardboard from cereal boxes, crackers boxes, macaroni boxes .... anything we can get our hands on! We encourage students to reuse cardboard at home and to draw on both sides of their paper.

It's better to re-use than to recycle because recycling requires lots of energy. You can donate any materials to Doodlebugz by contacting us - we appreciate your help! Items we accept are:
- cardboard (cereal boxes, other packaging),
- old cotton clothes for rags (instead of paper towels),
- glass jars and aluminum cans for holding water or paint
- egg containers
- plastic containers with lids
- buckets and bowls

Why is ART important?

Involvement in the Arts is linked to higher academic performance, increased test scores and lower dropout rates.

- - -The Arts Education Partnership’s publication, Critical Links, contains 62 academic research studies that, taken together, demonstrate that arts education helps close the achievement gap, improves academic skills essential for reading and language development, and advances students’ motivation to learn. These cognitive and developmental benefits are reaped by students regardless of their socioeconomic status.
